Economy 10 – lower cost of electric heating and bills

The benefits of Economy 10 tariff are: Only one electric meter installed in each property In addition to electric heating and hot water, all the electricity used at the off-peak times is charged at the lower rate (such as washing machines, dishwashers, tumble dryers etc) Only one energy bill for the occupier.

The tariff incorporates a fixed service charge, a standard unit price and a lower unit price for electricity used at off peak times. The off-peak times can vary across the country, but are generally set for:

Midnight to 5:00 am (GMT) – 5 Hours 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm (GMT) – 3 Hours 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm (GMT) – 2 Hours

THE ECONOMY 10 TARIFF IS AVAILABLE FROM “SCOTTISH & SOUTHERN ENERGY” ACROSS MANY PARTS OF THE UK. Example of use:

Hot water programmed for full tank in morning – on between 4am – 5am (off-peak) Hot water programmed for full tank early evening – on between 3pm – 4pm (off-peak) High consumption appliances used in off-peak between 8pm – 10pm – washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer

Electric Heating system: -On between 4am- 5am (off-peak) to raise property temperature at lower cost. -On between 6am – 9am (peak) – less energy now used (than without off-peak boost) as temperature increased between 4am – 5am. -On between 3pm – 4pm (off-peak) to raise property temperature at lower cost. -On between 5pm – 10pm (off-peak between 8pm – 10pm). Less energy used (than without off-peak boost) between 5pm – 8pm as temperature increased between 3pm – 4pm and added benefit of off-peak electricity between 8pm – 10pm.
