Energy Performance of Buildings Directive:Organisations are subject to increasing levels of green legislation to ensure minimum standards of performance with regard to energy use, emissions and recycling.Many of these will involve financial outlay to acquire the necessary certification and penalties for those failing to meet the required standards. INTELLY GREEN can help companies keep abreast of these laws and any changes in EU legislation as well as helping them implement the required industry standard approvals.
Energy Performance of Buildings Directive
A new EU law from October 2008 will require any public buildings over 1,000sq.m. to be valued and gain a Display Energy Certification (DEC). Commercial buildings will be subject to similar regulations with those over 10,000 sq.m. required to gain an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). Further legislation planned within the next “2 years” includes a Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC), which supports the government aims to cut UK carbon emissions by 1.2m tonnes by 2020. Whilst mandatory for large non energy-intensive organisations in both the public and private sector, it will rely on self-certification based on independent audits, requiring further input from specialist companies.
